THE GCC has pledged to ensure the completion of its strategic rail network by its target of December 2030.
The project is expected to further strengthen Gulf integration, maintain the smooth flow of trade and supply chains, and support the region’s ability to address current requirements and rapidly evolving geopolitical challenges.
The progress of the project is on track, Gulf transportation ministers said after an online review yesterday.
Ministers underscored the need to intensify joint efforts to ensure its timely implementation.
Transportation and Telecommunications Minister Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa headed Bahrain’s delegation at the extraordinary meeting of the GCC Ministerial Council for Transport.
The meeting was attended by ministers and senior officials responsible for transport, ports and logistics sectors across GCC member states.
Besides the railway project, the meeting also reviewed the latest developments in the regional logistics integration initiatives.
Shaikh Abdulla said that the meeting was convened in line with the directives and decisions issued by the GCC Supreme Council at the Manama and Jeddah summits.
They underscored the strategic importance of the railway project as a key pillar of comprehensive Gulf integration, he said.
