Kuwait's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Thursday reaffirmed the country's commitment to combating human trafficking as a transnational organised crime and a serious violation of human rights, dignity and fundamental freedoms requiring collective international action.
In a statement marking World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the ministry highlighted Kuwait's efforts to strengthen its national framework through legislation, institutions, prevention mechanisms, victim protection, judicial procedures, awareness programmes and capacity-building initiatives aligned with international commitments.
The ministry stressed the importance of enhancing international and regional cooperation, exchanging expertise and developing partnerships to prevent human trafficking, protect victims and hold perpetrators accountable, while supporting UN efforts through a comprehensive human rights-based approach.
It added that this year's theme, "Human Trafficking and Technology: Victims Trapped in Online Scams," highlights the exploitation of victims in electronic fraud centres and their forced involvement in criminal activities.
