A youth initiative that highlighted the importance of traditional crafts within Bahraini society came to a close yesterday at Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre.
The fourth Young Artisan Programme was organised by the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) and ran throughout July.
The closing ceremony was attended by Baca heritage director general Shaikh Mohamed bin Khalifa Al Khalifa.
It attracted strong participation from young people and received positive feedback from participants and parents, who praised the workshops for helping them develop practical skills.
Participants learned practical craft skills, helping preserve traditional craftsmanship while encouraging creativity in the sustainable use of natural resources.
This included traditional and contemporary crafts, such as epoxy resin art, woodcraft decoration, pottery and ceramics, decoupage, cake decorating, crochet, fashion design, traditional jewellery design, macramé and other creative arts.
A new series of workshops for adults, scheduled to take place during August, will be held next, with workshops including ‘Make Your Own Leather Card Holder’, ‘Design Your Own Beach Bag’, ‘Waves and Threads’, ‘Crochet Art’, ‘Professional Mobile Photography’, ‘Traditional Boat Making’, ‘Pottery on the Wheel’, ‘Gypsum Decoration and Engraving’, ‘Al Sabagh Making’, and ‘Arabic Calligraphy’.
