VOLLEYBALL – Bahrain named yesterday their final 15-player line-up that will be going for gold at home in the second Arab Youth Volleyball Championship.
The under-17 tournament, organised by the Bahrain Volleyball Association (BVA) in coordination with the Arab Volleyball Association (AVA), gets underway on Sunday next week at Isa bin Rashid Volleyball Arena at Isa Sports City in Riffa.
The Bahrainis are one of six youth men’s national teams from across the region that are taking part in the single round-robin competition, with the others being defending champions Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan, Algeria and Egypt.
Bahrain’s roster was confirmed yesterday by the Bahrain Volleyball Association.
It features all 14 players that flew the kingdom’s flag in the AVC Boys’ U18 Volleyball Championship 2026, held just last month in Haikou, China, where the nationals finished 12th overall amongst the 16 participating teams.
That team included outside hitters Sayed Hasan Alabbar, Ebrahim Alhamar, Abdulla Aljaboori, Mohamed Haram, and skipper Nasralla Haram; opposite spikers Karrar Yaqoob and Mohammed Kadhem; middle blockers Ammar Ebrahim, Mustafa Ebrahim, and Ali Abdulla; setters Ahmed Husain and Hussain Albalooshi; and liberos Hadi Ahmed and Abbas Mohamed.
One player has been added to Bahrain’s list for their Arab tournament bid in Hadi Hussain.
The Bahrainis have been gearing up for the event with practices at the championship venue, supervised by youth men’s national team head coach Yusuf Khalifa.
The other members of the technical and administrative staff are team manager Abdulla Almahroos, assistant coach Mohamed Salman, physiotherapist Mohamed Attia, and physical trainer Hasan Aldairi.
From next Sunday, three matches are scheduled on each of the five days of action.
The nationals kick off their Arab title bid against Algeria on opening night, before taking on their Jordanian counterparts the following evening.
They then play Kuwait on August 12 before going up against Saudi in their penultimate assignment on August 14.
The nationals close their campaign against Egypt on the competition’s final day on August 16.
Bahrain were the silver-medallists from the inaugural edition of the Arab youth event held in Amman, Jordan in 2024.
Joining them and gold-medallists Saudi on the podium were Libya, who came away with the bronze medals.
