BASKETBALL – Bahrain’s Seef took a respectable seventh place from 12 teams yesterday in the Singapore Challenger 2026, held as part of the Fiba 3x3 World Tour 2026.
The kingdom’s squad bowed out of the competition following an 11-21 loss in the quarter-finals to Shanghai from China.
Seef’s quartet of Bogdan Dragovic, Uros Ilic, Austin Ajukwa, and Elyas Younes tried valiantly to put up a fight against their more seasoned rivals, but could not get over the hump.
Seef therefore ended their title bid with just one victory from three games, which was a last-gasp triumph over home side Singapore in their second of two preliminary round fixtures, earning them a spot in the knockouts.
Toulouse from France went on to capture the tournament crown after defeating Chinese outfit Hangzhou Jingwei 21-12 in the final.
In the semis, Hangzhou Jingwei were 18-16 winners in overtime against Shanghai, while Toulouse upset Amsterdam Rabobank from the Netherlands 17-14.
Following yesterday’s results, Seef missed out on a share of the $60,000 in prize money on offer to the top five teams.
Toulouse, Hangzhou Jingwei, and Amsterdam Rabobank, meanwhile, qualified for the Malaga Masters in Spain – a top-tier Fiba 3x3 World Tour event scheduled for October 10 and 11 – after finishing as the top three on the rankings.
The Fiba 3x3 World Tour is the premier street basketball series sanctioned by the International Basketball Federation (Fiba), and it features tournaments of various levels held around the world.
Masters events are at the highest tier, followed by Challengers – both of which are fed by qualifiers, which include Super Quest, Quest, and Lite Quest events.
Seef are competing on the world tour for the second successive campaign.
This year’s Fiba 3x3 World Tour will be making a stop in the kingdom for the third edition of the Manama Masters, scheduled for November 20 and 21.
