TABLE TENNIS – Bahrain bagged a sensational four gold medals and one silver medal in the teams’ competitions at the West Asia Table Tennis Championship, being played in Amman, Jordan.
Securing the titles for the kingdom’s delegation were the senior men’s squad, the under-13 girls’ team, the under-13 boys’ team, and the under-11 boys’ team.
The under-15 boys’ team added the silver medal to Bahrain’s outstanding haul.
BTTA vice-president Abdulali Al Madeh was on hand at the Jordanian capital to congratulate the Bahraini squads on their successes and join them in their celebrations after being awarded their respective trophies and medals.
The senior men’s team were crowned champions of their category after defeating their counterparts from Jordan 3-2 in their final.
Bahrain’s under-13 girls’ team won their gold after defeating Oman 3-1 in their title clash.
The under-13 boys followed suit, securing their title with a hard-fought 3-2 triumph over Iraq in their final.
The under-11 boys’ team struck gold after outplaying Iraq 3-0 in their title-decider, while Bahrain’s under-15 boys’ squad wrapped up their impressive campaign by taking silver after losing to Saudi Arabia 0-3 in their final.
The Bahrainis are now also expected to be amongst the top medal hopefuls in the championship’s singles and doubles events at the Jordanian capital.
