HANDBALL – Bahrain's senior men’s handball national team lost 21-25 in a friendly game played against National Bank of Egypt Sports Club.
The tune-up was part of the Bahrainis’ overseas training camp in Cairo as they gear up for the men’s handball tournament at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The kingdom’s squad are repeat silver-medallists in the quadrennial Asiad, having lost to three-time defending champions Qatar in the final of the previous two editions held in Jakarta-Palembang, Indonesia in 2018 and then in Hangzhou, China in 2022.
The Bahrainis were also bronze-medallists in the 2014 tournament in Incheon, South Korea, but this time will be gunning for gold – especially after making history earlier this year by winning their first-ever title in the Asian Men’s Handball Championship.
The men’s handball tournament at this year’s Asian Games will be taking place from September 19 and continue until September 29 at Toyoda Gosei Memorial Gymnasium in the city of Inazawa at Aichi Prefecture.
Bahrain are in a tough Group B alongside South Korea, Kuwait, Iran, and Kazakhstan in the competition’s preliminary round.
Group A features hosts Japan, China, Hong Kong, and Qatar.
