TRIATHLON – Bahrain's star triathlete Omar Hamza has been named as part of the kingdom’s delegation that will be going for gold at the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) announced yesterday Hamza as Bahrain’s lone participant in triathlon at this year’s Asiad.
He will be competing in the men’s individual race, scheduled for September 20 – the day after the official opening ceremony of the quadrennial Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) spectacle.
Triathlon is one of 43 sports on the event’s programme, with action set to take place at Gamagori City Triathlon Venue.
Hamza is the latest addition to the kingdom’s delegation for this year’s Asian Games.
He joins his compatriots in Bahrain’s other sports, including five-on-five basketball, athletics, handball, swimming, weightlifting, judo, cycling, shooting, wrestling, taekwondo, jiu-jitsu, badminton, esports, and table tennis.
The Bahrainis are amongst 11,000 athletes, both men and women, flying the flags of the OCA’s 45-member nations in Aichi-Nagoya.
They will be vying for the podium in 469 medal events across 43 sports.
Bahrain are taking part for the 14th time in the world’s biggest multi-sport occasion outside of the Olympics.
The kingdom first participated in 1974 and have been going for gold in each Asiad edition since.
