BAHRAIN Chamber chairman Nabeel Kanoo has stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships between the banking and commercial sectors and providing faster and more flexible financing solutions to support companies facing temporary liquidity gaps.
“This would help ensure business continuity and enable companies to meet their obligations,” he said.
He expressed his appreciation for the role played by Bahraini banks and financial institutions in supporting the national economy and financing various sectors. He noted that the outstanding balance of loans and credit facilities extended to resident economic sectors stood at approximately BD13.4 billion at the end of April 2026, with the business sector accounting for 40.8 per cent.
He explained that some companies have sales, contracts and outstanding receivables but face temporary financial pressures because of differences between collection dates and the deadlines for meeting their obligations. This, he said, calls for financing solutions tailored to their operational needs.
Mr Kanoo called for expanding short-term financing, invoice and receivables financing, contract financing and purchase order financing, as well as developing supply chain financing solutions. He also urged banks to accelerate the assessment and approval of financing applications and improve creditworthiness assessment criteria by making use of sales data, cash flows and operational performance.
He emphasised the importance of early intervention to support companies before temporary financial pressures develop into default cases. He also called for flexible options to reschedule financial obligations within the applicable banking regulations.
He stressed that stronger cooperation between the banking and commercial sectors would help ensure business stability, support private sector growth, and strengthen the national economy.
