BAHRAIN’S top ranked Habib Sabah yesterday qualified for the second round of the World Snooker Championship (6 balls) being held in Karachi.
Sabah booked a spot in the second round finishing second in his group, behind Mohammed Asef of Pakistan. India’s Katin Chawla was third, Iran’s Hamed Zaredost fourth and UAE’s Mohammed Al Shamsi fifth.
The winner and runner-up in each group qualify for the second round.
Meanwhile, Bahrain’s other representative Ahmed Janahi was eliminated after losing to Australian Shanon Nickson, who finished second in the group.
Janahi had earlier lost to Pakistan’s Goran Agha.
Another Bahraini Sadiq Abdulghani defeated Sasika Pereira of Sri Lanka 4-1 while his teammate Khalil Ibrahim routed Lashak Pereira 4-0.
A total of 110 players representing 18 countries are competing in the event.
