Veteran actor Michael Caine will come out of retirement for a film starring Vin Diesel, ‘The Last Witch Hunter 2’.
Caine played a priest who assists the immortal warrior played by Diesel in the 2015 film ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ and will reprise his role.
Now 92, Caine announced his retirement in 2023 after starring in ‘The Great Escaper’ as a World War II veteran who escaped a care home to travel to Normandy solo for the 70th anniversary memorial of D-Day. Caine then said that he was retiring as it was unlikely he would be offered any leading roles at his age.
‘The only parts I’m likely to get now are old men, 90-year-old men, maybe 85… I’ve got wonderful reviews. What have I got to do to beat this?’ he said.
According to Variety, the sequel is being fast-tracked through development at Lionsgate and Diesel’s production banner One Race Films.
The original ‘Last Witch Hunter’ was a passion project for Diesel, who adapted the film based on his original character of Melkor the Witch Hunter in his own ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ campaigns.
