HAYATO Okamoto of Japan yesterday won the men’s under-23 road race in the Asian Cycling Championship at Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir.
Okamoto clocked two hours and 44.43 minutes to claim the gold in the 115.2km race. He was followed by Yevgeniy Gidich of Kazakhstan while Mohammed Ganjkhanlou of Iran was third.
Tung Huynh of Vietnam was fourth, Guangtong Ma of China fifth and his compatriot Jingbiao Zhao sixth.
Rei Onodera of Japan was seventh, Grigoriy Shtein of Kazakhstan eighth and Adlisham Zulkefli of Malaysia ninth.
Two Bahraini cyclists took part in this race with Nasser Al Dossary finishing 27th in 2:46.04 and Sa’ad Al Sa’adi 31st in 2:46.57.
Yue Chang of China raced to victory in the women’s junior category road race in 1:53.16. She was followed by Misuzu Shimoyama of Japan and Chanipom Batriya of Thailand in second and third places respectively.

Marina Kurnossova of Kazakhstan was fourth, Evangelina Setiawan of Indonesia fifth and Adibahakma Mohd Fuad of Malaysia sixth.
Bahrain Athletics Association honorary president Shaikh Ibrahim bin Abdulla Al Khalifa and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee general secretary Abdulrahman Askar presented the prizes to the winners.
