MANAMA: The 2011 unrest in Bahrain was a failed coup attempt backed by Qatar and Iran, Bahrain’s parliament said yesterday.
It was a Qatari-Iranian plot targeting Bahrain, taking advantage of the Arab Spring protests, it said in a statement.
The Shura Council separately condemned Qatar’s direct involvement in co-ordinating with terrorists during the 2011 incidents to create chaos and disrupt stability in the kingdom.
This has been proved by document and audio-recordings, it said.
The recording broadcast by BTV on Thursday night confirmed the existence of a Qatari-Iranian plot and their common agenda of targeting the kingdom throught execution of a series of acts of incitement, it said.
Parliament urged citizens to rally around the country’s leadership to foil all such plots. It also called for the prosecution of those involved in the phone call.
