Muharraq kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the quarter-finals after defeating FUS Rabat of Morocco 87-83 in a Group ‘A’ second round match in the 30th Arab Clubs Basketball Championship at Al Buazawi Sports Hall in Morocco last night.
The quarters scores of the match were 14-22, 32-19, 17-20 and 24-22.
This was Muharraq’s first victory in the championship after they lost their opening match against Manazeh of Tunisia 55-66. Last night’s victory has brightened Muharraq’s chances of reaching the last eight round as the top two teams from each group will qualify along with the best two third-place teams in the three groups.
In a thrilling encounter last night, Muharraq came up with their best performance thanks to Ahmed Hassan Al Derazi and Bader Abdulla Jassim who both scored most of the three-pointer shots.
Muharraq have one game left, against Gezera of Egypt on Saturday at 9pm (Bahrain time). It could be a tough fight for Muharraq since Gezera are seen as the favourites to win the championship.
