A fresh call was issued to owners of private trucks bearing orange number plates that they will be barred from crossing the King Fahad Causeway starting from Wednesday. The Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry urged firms wanting to transport merchandise through the causeway to apply for an ‘international cargo’ licence.
“We urge all land transportation companies to comply with the law and regulate their situation,” said Under-Secretary Mariam Jama’an in a statement issued yesterday.
She also warned that violators would face legal action. The GDN reported in January that the ministry had announced the clamp following several reports of violations by owners of this category of vehicles, allowing a grace period until July 1.
However, the ministry issued a second reprieve until August 1 for the owners to rectify their status.
