Favourites won both the feature races in Sakhir yesterday while three outsiders won five of the support races.
Empiricist, owned by Ghalya Raed Ali Abdulla, trained by Talal Al Alawi and ridden by Abdulla Faisal, as expected won the richest race of the day – the Ali Venture Cup for imported horses – which carried a cash prize of BD3,000.
Empiricist beat William Blake by two lengths while Peak Royale was third and When Will It End fourth.
Al Hamdanieh 1508, owned by Safra, trained by Alan Smith and ridden by Brett Doyle, edged out Al Jellabieh 1622 by a short head to claim the Late Hasan bin Saleh Al Rowai Cup for Arabian horses which carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
Al Rabda 1605 was third and Kuheila’t Al Adiat 1594 fourth.
Penelope Pitstop, owned by H and R Stables, trained by Alan Smith and ridden by Brett Doyle, gave the favourites a good start by winning the first race of the day which was for locally bred horses and carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
The favourite beat Shamikh by a length while Caped Crusader was third and Runway Charlie fourth.
Namuthej, owned by Al-Afoo Racing Stable, trained by Bader Al Abed and ridden by Ian Brennan, caused the first upset of the day beating Itizan by five lengths to win the race for locally bred horses which carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
Injaz was third and Unum Et Unicum fourth.
Android, owned by Al Mallah Syndicate, trained by Jalil Mallah and ridden by Andrew Elliott, followed suit causing another shock beating favourite Municipal by six lengths to win the race for imported horses which carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
Prince Bonnaire was third and Jimmy Elder fourth.
Autumns Blush, owned by Fawzi Abdulla Nass, trained by Fawzi Nass and ridden by Husain Makki, made it a happy day for outsiders when it beat Cloudwalker by two lengths to win the race for imported horses which carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
La Faisan Blanche was third and Election Night fourth.
Riyaah, owned by Shaikh Hamad bin Abdulla bin Isa Al Khalifa, trained by James Naylor and ridden by P Convertino, lived up to expectations beating Doc Holiday by a neck to win the handicap race which carried a cash prize of BD1,500.
First Mate was third and Call A Friend fourth.
