A FIRE gutted a fast-food restaurant in Juffair yesterday.
However, no one was injured in the incident which happened at Hardees restaurant located in an area popularly known as the American Alley at around 8.45am.
“Initial details indicate negligence was the reason behind the fire,” said the Interior Ministry on its Twitter account.
Videos circulating on social media showed clouds of thick, dark smoke billowing out of the fast-food outlet.
A witness from a nearby restaurant said a Hardees employee rushed in asking for the Civil Defence number.
“He rushed in at around 8.30am asking for the fire department’s number,” she said on condition of anonymity.
“There were only two staff members in our restaurant so we didn’t leave immediately to see what was happening.”
“But when we started smelling smoke we went outside and saw the thick smoke.
“There was no damage to our restaurant; just a little blackening of our outside walls.”
