LABOUR Day celebrations were held across the country yesterday with Bahraini and expat workers honoured for their service.
Thirty Bahrain Airport Company (BAC) team members were recognised for their exemplary performance with Diligent Employee awards at the Bahrain Free Labour Unions Federation (BFLUF) Labour Day celebration.
The ceremony, held under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad, was presided over by Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel Hamaidan, who presented the awards in the presence of senior BAC management and union board members.
“I would like to thank the awarded BAC team members for their hard work, loyalty and dedication, which are crucial to the overall success of the Airport Modernisation Programme,” said BAC chief executive Mohamed Yousif Al Binfalah.
Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh also honoured a number of long-serving employees at the Shura Council General- Secretariat.
Students of the New Millennium School-DPS celebrated Labour Day by honouring security guards and cleaners of the school. A special assembly was also conducted, among other activities.
Batelco hosted a special breakfast for around 800 employees to celebrate the occasion at the company’s headquarters, in Hamala.
Staff were surprised with boxes of chocolates and a special invitation to attend the celebration.
“This event is an essential part of the company’s human resources strategy, which focuses on improving employees’ experience in the company, investing in the development of leadership in the digital age, and working to make Batelco the first choice employer for young national talent,” said Batelco general manager human resources Faisal Al Jalahma.
Meanwhile, Capital Governor Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al Khalifa launched a “Together We Care” campaign sponsored by the Capital Governorate and organised by One Bahrain Hospitality, in co-operation with a group of companies and institutions, to support workers at construction sites.
It included the distribution of water and fruits to workers in Juffair. The initiative also features awareness programmes.
Nearly 300 workers took part in a medical camp organised by the Indian Ladies Association at Adhari Park.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Club organised a Free Mega Medical Camp at the club in association with Al Hilal Hospital.
The Indian Club Labour Day event was attended by Indian Ambassador Alok Kumar Sinha and Mr Humaidan, while the Indian School Bahrain (ISB) organised a free medical camp for parents and students at its Isa Town campus.
Discover Islam distributed lunch packets at labour accommodation in various locations.
More than 700 people attended May Day celebrations organised by Telugu Kala Samithi Bahrain in co-ordination with Bahrain Motors Company.
The evening of musical and dance performances featured folk singer Matla Thirupathi, who flew in from Hyderabad.
The First Inernational Workers Exhibition 2019 was held yesterday at the Gulf Air Club, organised by the Bangladesh Samaj Society.
It highlighted the role of workers in society while also giving guidance and discussing issues related to free visa workers.
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) and Bahrain Free Labour Union Federation paid tribute to Bahrain’s workforce marking International Workers’ Day.
The NIHR highlighted the importance of legislation to protect the rights of employers and workers.
