Oman: The Ministry of Higher Education has blacklisted 39 fake universities in a bid to prevent Omani students from joining them for their academic studies.
According to a ministry official, 66 per cent of the fake universities claim to be listed in the US, making it the location of choice for those universities to lure students.
The ministry has identified 26 fake universities which are located in the USA, seven in India and six in other countries.
The US-based fake universities are Kingsbridge University, Corllins University, Columbus University, University of Atlanta, Baytown University, South Creek University, The American University of London, the American University of Hawaii and the Atlantic International University.
In 2018, the ministry uncovered 20 fake certificates. It has also dealt with more than 1,250 cases of fake qualifications since 1975.
