Riyadh: An employee working with King Fahad Causeway has been arrested for attempting to smuggle seven Pakistani nationals from Saudi Arabia into Bahrain.
The Eastern Province police officers foiled the smuggling attempt and arrested the employee early Friday morning, sources told Arabic daily Sabq.
The police have also arrested another Pakistani national who was trying to help fellow countrymen cross the causeway.
Dammam police received a tip-off that a Pakistani national, wanted in court, was planning to smuggle seven fellow countrymen into Bahrain, report said.
Sources said that the King Fahad Causeway official was to receive SR50,000 as bribe for helping Pakistani nationals cross the causeway from Saudi Arabia to enter into Bahrain.
The special police caught the employee and eight others involved in the smuggling operation at the causeway on Friday at 2 am.
They have been referred to competent security authorities for legal action.
