Manama: The Gulf region’s $6bn leather industry will come under the spotlight at Leatherworld Middle East 2016 in Dubai.
To be held from April 26 to 28 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, the event is expected to see more than 125 exhibitors taking part, according to the show organiser, Messe Frankfurt Middle East.
Data from Euromonitor showed that the GCC’s leather trade was valued at $4.09bn in 2014.
That figure includes the import and export of semi-finished and finished leather, accessories, travel goods, handbags and footwear.
The GCC is also a leather manufacturing hub; $1.9bn worth of dressed leather, luggage, handbags, saddlery, harnesses and footwear were produced in the Gulf region in 2014, with Saudi Arabia ($1.1bn), the UAE ($468m) and Qatar ($250m) being the region’s big three leather producers, the organiser said.
