A store clerk has described fearing for his life as he was held at knife-point during a robbery, a court heard.
During the incident on April 14, a 20-year-old Bahraini held the storekeeper at knife-point while his co-defendant, a 21-year-old Saudi, stole BD200 from the cash register.
The 35-year-old victim alerted the police after the two fled the scene.
The defendants are facing charges of aggravated assault and theft at the High Criminal Court where they denied the charges.
They allegedly carried out several robberies targeting cold stores around the country while being under the influence of alcohol and high on drugs.
However, they have only been implicated in connection with the robbery at the cold store in Suq Waqif.
The Indian victim came face to face with his alleged assailants in court, for the first time since the incident
Describing his ordeal, he said he was almost killed when one of the defendants held a knife to his neck.
“He, your honour, wanted to kill me with a knife,” the victim said as he identified his attackers in court.
“On April 14, I was at the cash register in the cold store.
“These two men entered the cold store at around 4.30am and when one of them pulled out a knife I thought I was going to get killed.
“However, I managed to run out of the store and started yelling for help, but there were no passers-by around.
“They stole BD200 and I thought I was going to get killed.
“I remember their faces very well, and this is the first time I have faced such a horrific incident.”
The Bahraini defendant, a student at Bahrain University, previously told prosecutors he and his friend had carried out several robberies using the same modus operandi.
The Bahraini defendant is also said to have carjacked a Range Rover from outside a restaurant in Exhibition Avenue, which the two allegedly used in the robberies.
The Saudi defendant previously told the court he came from a wealthy family, and regretted robbing the cold store – adding that they were “really heavily intoxicated on alcohol and shabu”.
The trial has been adjourned until December 1 for lawyers to submit their final arguments.
