Bahrain won the 13th Asian Cross Country Championship held at Rashid Equestrian Club in Sakhir.
The win came after the team dominated all competitions and took top spots in the senior men’s and women’s and juniors’ races claiming a total of 11 medals.
The first three places in senior men’s section went to Bahrain’s Rop Albert, Korir Isaac and Ayalew Aweke clocking 32:35.22, 32:58.73 and 33:06.27 respectively.
In fourth place came India’s Gopi Thonakal with a time of 33:43.63.
Bahrain senior women also claimed the first three places with Chumba Eunice coming in first with a time of 29:35.38, Jebet Ruth in second place with 29:41.24 and Belete Mimi in third with 29:45.90.
Emirate’s Alia Saeed came in fourth with a time of 29:59.74.
The junior section also saw Bahrain clinch the top three spots. Ali Abdi took first place with a time of 26:17.55 while Desalegn Derara came in second with 26:19.02 and Ibrahim Abdi finished third with 27:10.09. Japan’s Daiju Nakashima was fourth with 27:34.58.
The opening ceremony was attended by His Majesty the King’s Representative for Charity and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa and Supreme Council for Youth and Sports First Deputy Chairman, West Asian Athletics Federation President and Bahrain Athletics Association President Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The event was hailed by Shaikh Naser, who said the arrival of more than 100 athletes from 16 Asian countries has strengthened the ties among the nations.
