UNESCO-AFFILIATED schools in Bahrain celebrated International Day of the Arabic Language, marked every year on December 18.
It honours the day the UN General Assembly introduced Arabic into the official and working languages of the organisation.
Artificial intelligence was the theme for this year’s celebration.
The Qalali Primary School for Boys organised a festival, attended by Dr Lubna Sulaibikh, secretary general of the Bahrain National Committee and the National Co-ordinator of Bahraini Schools affiliated to Unesco.
She highlighted the importance of Arabic language in Bahrain’s culture and civilisation, stressing that the language connects between the present and the future, and that the use of artificial intelligence in the study of the Arabic language has a great role in spreading the language and its sciences and developing its uses and applications.
The celebration this year focuses on the importance of the role of artificial intelligence in preserving and enhancing the Arabic language, as Unesco director general Audrey Ozlay pointed out in her message.
“While artificial intelligence involves a number of risks to multilingualism, it also carries many opportunities,” she said.
