A TRADITIONAL art form of Kerala, Thiruvappana Mahotsavam, was recreated in Bahrain by a group of expatriates at the Indian School Bahrain.
The festival is celebrated in honour of Parassinikadavu Muthappan, a folk deity presiding at the Sree Muthappan Temple also called the Parassini Madappura, that adds to the fame of Kannur district of the Indian state.
It is believed that the spirit of the deity enters the body of two performers of the Theyyam (a religious ritualistic act which is a combination of dance, mime and music) – Thiruvappana and Muthappan.
The day-long festivities at the school’s Isa Town campus witnessed the presence of the two deities, with the rituals being conducted at the ‘madappura”, a sanctum sanctorum set up at the venue.
The event was organised by Bahrain Sree Muthappan Seva Sangham in co-ordination with Star Vision Events Management company.
A number of other art and cultural activities were also part of the celebration.
