MANAMA: Preparations are underway to perform the first ever liver transplant in Bahrain this year, according to Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh.
She announced the planned hepatic transplantation as she responded to a query by MP Falah Hashem who asked about the ministry’s organ transplant strategy.
The minister said that eight to 10 kidney transplants are performed in Bahrain on average each year. Four Bahraini doctors working with Salmaniya Medical Complex’s kidney diseases and renal department have been sent abroad to be trained in such surgeries.
