MANAMA: Bahrain’s annual food festival was launched at Bahrain Bay last night.
The fifth edition of the Bahrain Food Festival will feature local and international cuisines along with live cooking stations, a heritage village and live entertainment.
Organised by the Bahrain Tourism and Exhibitions Authority (BTEA), the festival was opened by Industry, Commerce and Tourism Minister Zayed Alzayani alongside BTEA chief executive Nader Almoayyed, Supreme Council for Environment chief executive Dr Mohammed Bin Daina and other officials.
“We are happy with the launch of the fifth edition of the food festival in Bahrain and we thank everyone who played a part in making this festival a reality,” said Mr Alzayani on the sidelines of the launch.
“This year we tried to change things around a little in the composition of the festival as it will continue for 20 days and after the first 10 days the participants will change, so that we are able to accommodate the largest number of participants possible and it will exceed more than 200.
“And for the first time we have added the heritage village which is a new concept.
“It’s unique this year as well because there are several live cooking stations where we will host many local and international chefs in both local and international cuisines.”
Among the highlights is a large stall from LuLu Hypermarket, which caters ready-to-eat food and live cooking. The supermarket giant features local and international cuisines with expert chefs from at least four countries.
The festival also features a range of entertainment activities, a children’s play area, a traditional village offering local food and live cooking stations, as well as live musical performances and competitions.
The food options at the festival range from healthy and organic food to street food and gastronomic delicacies coming from various creative and diverse vendors.
The festival will be open from Sunday to Wednesday, from 4pm to 11pm, and from Thursday to Saturday from 4pm to midnight.
The first phase will continue until February 29, and the second phase will be held from March 5 to March 14. It includes participation from more than 200 restaurants over the two stages.
The festival is in line with the BTEA’s strategy that aims to develop and strengthen the tourism sector under the slogan of ‘Ours. Yours’, thereby contributing towards the country’s economy and to achieving the 2030 Economic Vision.
