Kuwait City: Kuwait Education Ministry has decided to halt the hiring of teachers from outside the country for the current school year.
The decision to make do with local hires came in light of the fresh restrictions imposed to halt the spread of the coronavirus disease, Al Jarida newspaper quoted well-informed sources as saying.
“Instructions have been issued to the competent sectors at the ministry to work out their plans to offset the shortage in educational and administrative specialisations through local contracts with citizens, Gulf nations, and stateless residents [Bidoons] and expatriates inside the country according to needs,” a source said.
No committee has been formed to contract teachers from abroad for the present school year, according to the sources.
Kuwait has previously recruited schoolteachers from Egypt, Tunisia, Jordan and Lebanon for subjects that have a shortage of local teachers.
