A MAN stabbed his roommate to death because he complained about his cooking and the small portions he dished up, a court heard.
The 32-year-old Indian appeared in the High Criminal Court yesterday denying premeditated murder.
He allegedly stabbed Sarwan Singh, 23, outside a labour camp in Salmaniya on August 24.
The defendant initially told prosecutors that he killed his victim when the latter complained about his cooking.
“What I am accused of is true,” he said in his statement to prosecutors.
“On August 23 at 8pm the victim said that I did not cook enough food.
“We would take turns as roommates in cooking and he complained about my cooking.
“He told me to cook the food again before swearing at me.
“He took me outside in the street and said that he will bring his friends to assault me before other people calmed him down.”
The defendant described how he planned to kill the victim the following day after their heated argument.
“On August 24 I took a knife and kept it in my pocket,” he added.
“I was angry because he mocked my cooking.
“I brought a friend over and then saw him and three of his friends.
“I then stabbed him in the chest as his friends attacked me outside the labour camp.
“I then fled on foot and dropped the knife before going to Salmaniya Medical Complex where policemen arrested me.”
The trial has been adjourned until Sunday.
The GDN previously reported that the defendant was arrested within half an hour of the incident.
The victim was an employee of Shamiat Restaurant, according to the Labour Market Regulatory Authority records.
