Victorious team grabbed a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Nomas on the opening day of Nasser 9 Football Tournament.
In another match, Suqoor Al Bahrain and Al Ameed shared the spoils 2-2 at Khalifa Sports City Football Stadium.
Victorious with this win went top of the group while Nomas are at the bottom. Victorious had to wait until the 44th minute to break the deadlock, thanks to Mohammed Najeeb’s effort.
The team risked being pegged back throughout the second-half before substitute Hisham Ali doubled their lead in stoppage team.
Victorious dominated the first-half with star player Nawaf Abdullah spearheading the forward line. The team saw several chances go begging.
Nomas, on the other hand, adopted a defending strategy and relied on counter-attacks.
In the other match, Ahmed Ayef put Al Ameed into the lead after 22 minutes but Somoal Al Sir equalised for Suqoor just two minutes before the break.
The last 20 minutes of the game was exciting as Al Sir completed his brace with a goal in the 70th minute to put his team ahead.
But as the match was heading into its last minutes, Salim Mousa found the target in the 85th minute to secure a valuable point for Al Ameed.
Both the teams put up a modest display in the first-half though Suqoor Al Bahrain looked the better side in the opening 10 minutes as Omar Mohammed could have fired his team ahead but missed an one-on-one opportunity with only Al Ameed goalkeeper to beat.
As the match progressed, Suqoor Al Bahrain switched from attacking to defending and this allowed Al Ameed to take the lead through Ayef, who headed home a corner.
Suqoor searched for the equaliser and their efforts were almost rewarded in the 38th minute. But Al Sir misfired with just the goalkeeper to beat.
Ali Al Asfoor of Victorious and Al Sir of Suqoor team won the best player awards presented by CrediMax.
