MANAMA: A man has been arrested for allegedly pouring a chemical substance on his ex-wife and leaving her with severe burns.
The woman, who suffered from second-degree burns, was taken to hospital after the incident which left her with injuries to her face and body.
Investigations continue and her former husband, who denies the accusations, could face a charge of assault at the High Criminal Court if evidence suggests he carried out the attack.
He was taken to the Public Prosecution yesterday where he claimed he accidentally poured the chemical on his ex-wife during a heated argument.
He is said to have lured his ex-wife into a kitchen at his home before allegedly attempting to strangle her. When she screamed for help the chemical incident happened.
“The Public Prosecution carried out investigations in connection to an attack where a man poured a chemical substance on his ex-wife during an argument,” read a prosecution statement.
“The man took his ex-wife into a kitchen. She was at his home with his mother and brother. However, an argument then erupted between them before he put his hands around her neck and strangled her.
“She then yelled for help before he poured a chemical substance, in a glass, on her.
“His mother and brother then came into the kitchen and the victim was rushed to a hospital.
However, the defendant claimed that he accidentally poured the chemical substance on him and his ex-wife during a heated argument.”
A medical examiner checked the victim and the defendant to compile a medical report about their injuries.
In addition, prosecutors heard the statements of the defendant’s brother and forensic officers examined the scene.
The man has yesterday remanded in custody for seven days.
