Bahrain and Palestine paid tribute to Bahrain’s iconic figure in poetry and sports, the late Shaikh Isa bin Rashid Al Khalifa, who passed away last year on World Poetry Day.
Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (Baca) President Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa and Palestinian Minister of Culture Atef Abu Saif took part in a virtual forum organised by the Palestinian ministry and its embassy in Manama to celebrate Shaikh Isa’s achievements on World Poetry Day.
The Arab Organisation for Education, Culture and Science selected Shaikh Isa and Omani poet Hilal Al Ameri for celebration on World Poetry Day.
Shaikha Mai hailed the cultural co-operation between Bahrain and Palestine and the role of Palestinian Ambassador Taha Abdulqadir in bolstering it. She spoke of how culture had brought her together with Abu Saif.
The name of Shaikh Isa is engraved deeply in the memory of Bahrain, in the hearts of its people and in the memory of the Arab world, she said.
The Palestinian minister hailed the achievements of Shaikh Isa, saying he was a great poet who devoted his life to lofty human goals through his cultural creative role and his sporting role.
