MPs have unanimously approved guidelines to crack down on medical negligence cases and speed up services at government hospitals and health centres.
They have put forward 58 recommendations following a four-month probe into health facilities and services.
The recommendations include addressing a shortage of medicines and a dearth of doctors and nurses in various departments, besides delays in treatments and appointments.
Legislators are also calling for a clear mechanism to register and follow up claims of alleged medical errors. They stressed the need for a panel of experts to continuously assess the performance of medics and nurses.
Legislators have put forth a 59th recommendation giving them the power to take action against any health executive or administrator found guilty of negligence when it comes to carrying out their duties.
The debate on the findings of the investigations, which lasted for around nine hours, had Health Minister Faeqa Al Saleh and senior health officials responding to questions from MPs. She also faced calls for her resignation.
