PEOPLE have been cautioned against using disinfectant spray on face masks due to risks of respiratory problems and skin allergies.
The National Health Regulatory Authority (NHRA) also urged citizens and residents to refrain from using liquid sanitisers on face masks.
The warning follows a video circulating on social media.
“The NHRA would like to draw everyone’s attention to the need to follow factory instructions on medical devices and supplies in addition to the directives of the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus (Covid-19),” the authority said in a statement yesterday.
“There are instructions regarding the use and disposal of single-use medical products such as masks.
“Do not be drawn by false information circulating on social media as it is information that is not based on scientific foundations and has not been subjected to the experiments and tests necessary to prove its efficiency and safety.”
The authority warned people against possible negative impacts of improper practices such as respiratory problems resulting from inhaling sanitisers used to sterilise the mask as well as possible skin sensitivity as a result of exposure to the chemicals.
It further reaffirmed the need to obtain information from official sources.
