MANAMA: People in Bahrain took to social media to thank the country’s leadership as they enjoyed relaxed Covid restrictions yesterday.
Parents particularly counted their blessings as they could take their children to buy stationery ahead of a new school year starting from Tuesday.
As Bahrain shifted to the ‘green alert’ Covid system from yesterday, people praised the National Taskforce for Combating the Coronavirus, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, for its success in the fight against the pandemic, according to a report in our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
In their posts, they stressed the need to continue wearing marks in closed areas and comply with the required health protocols despite moving from the ‘yellow’ to ‘green’ alert level.
The shift to the ‘green alert’ level was decided by the task force after Bahrain inoculated 40 per cent of special categories and those aged 40 and above with booster shots, which represents another milestone for Bahrain in the fight against the pandemic.
Citizens and residents were able to accompany their children to mosques to perform their Friday prayers.
Families were also able to enjoy a day out with their children, with many visiting restaurants and shopping malls after restrictions imposed on youngsters aged above 12 were lifted.
The green level – the lowest alert level within the Covid-19 Alert Level Traffic Light System – is based on positivity rates.
The system consists of four levels – Green, Orange, Yellow and Red – based on the average percentage of cases to tests, in addition to the level of occupancy in intensive care units. Bahrain has been in the green zone only for three days – July 16 to 18 – ever since the country adopted the traffic \\light mechanism earlier that month.
This was ahead of the Arafah and Eid Al Adha holidays, when the kingdom adopted ‘orange’ and subsequently moved into the ‘yellow’.
