Sayed Diaa Saeed scored in the 87th minute as Al Khalidiya defeated Muharraq 1-0 in a third-round match of the Nasser bin Hamad Premier League last night.
Khalidiya have leapfrogged to the second position in the standings with six points after the victory while Muharraq, who are yet to register a victory this season, are eighth with one point.
Last night’s victory was the second triumph of the season for Khalidiya who defeated Budaiya 2-0 in the opener before going down 2-1 to Manama in the second round.
Muharraq held reigning champions Riffa to a golless draw in the season opener and lost 3-2 to last season’s runners-up East Riffa in the second round.
Manama top the standings with seven points after the round. They edged East Riffa 1-0 in the first round and defeated Khalidiya in the second before being held to a 1-1 draw by Al Ahli.
