A man has been jailed for seven years after stabbing his lifelong friend with a knife for ignoring his phone calls.
The 39-year-old unemployed Bahraini was found guilty of assault, being intoxicated and disorderly and insulting the Sudanese victim by the High Criminal Court.
He armed himself with a knife and confronted the 34-year-old outside his home in Manama in September last year.
His victim described how he was left in a pool of blood when he attempted to avoid the defendant who was known for being a ‘trouble maker’.
“I did not want to continue being friends with him,” the victim said as he described his ordeal to prosecutors. “He then came to my house with his friend before he insulted my mother.” The victim then described how the defendant threatened to kill him and said that he was ‘digging his own grave’ by avoiding his phone calls.
Trouble
“He told me that he was going to kill me because I was trying to avoid him,” he added. “I did not know what to do and when he phoned me on the day of the incident I went outside my house to confront him. However, he then stabbed me and I fell to the ground in a pool of blood.
“I did not want to continue to be friends with him because he is a trouble maker. He nearly killed me and I’m lucky that I am still alive.”
A medical report described how the victim suffered serious injuries as the weapon plunged deep into his stomach.
“The defendant nearly suffered a fatal wound after being stabbed by his friend,” read the medical record attached to court documents. “The knife penetrated his abdomen and his pancreas. He lost a lot of blood and could have been killed in the attack.”
