MANAMA: Two attempts to smuggle drugs into the kingdom through Bahrain International Airport have been foiled.
Authorities yesterday announced the arrest of two suspects with 10kg of methamphetamine, locally known as shabu. The drug was hidden in secret compartments inside their bags.
The Muharraq Prosecution head said the Public Prosecution received two reports from the Anti-Narcotics Directorate regarding two separate attempts to smuggle in drugs.
“An investigation was launched and both suspects were interrogated as well as taken into custody,” the prosecution head said in a statement yesterday.
“They tried to smuggle shabu with an aim to sell the drug in Bahrain.
“Specialists were appointed to examine the narcotics and investigations will continue.
“Witness statements will also be taken in addition to final investigative reports to refer the suspects and accomplices to trial.”
