THE Health Ministry, in co-ordination with the Industry, Commerce and Tourism Ministry, has taken necessary precautionary measures in light of a warning issued by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about the possible presence of salmonella bacteria and Cronobacter sakazakii in infant powdered formula produced in the US, which includes Similac, Alimentum, and EleCare brand formula.
The Health Ministry called on all consumers to refrain from using these products and to dispose of them in order to preserve the health and safety of their children, following the advisory issued by the FDA.
It was in line with the alert and warning from the FAO/WHO International Food Safety Authorities Network regarding reports of a possible bacterial contamination of some products of powdered milk substitutes manufactured in the US.
Since these products were exported to Bahrain, the Food Control Department contacted the importing company immediately and the products have been recalled from the market.
