Sultan Al Masri and Waleed Daraj spearheaded bowlers from their respective groups into the third round of the Funland Ramadan Bowling Tournament, being held at Funland Centre’s lanes.
Saudi Al Masri topped a field of six from Group A in the second phase to march through to the knockout rounds, while Daraj did the same in Group B.
They were competing amongst 14 bowlers in their groups, playing five games each, to claim one of six berths moving forward.
Al Masri was joined by fellow-Saudi Abdulrahman Al Kheliwi, Bahrain international Yousef Falah, Ali Al Mass, and the Saudi pair of Ziyad Al Kheliwi and Adel Barqi.
From Group B, Daraj was joined by Ahmed Al Ansari, Shaker Daraj, Hussain Busheri, Abdulaziz Al Zayani and Ronald Seralvo from the Philippines.
The 12 join the four bowlers who advanced directly from qualifying to form a 16-player field in the knockout games.
That quartet includes Emerson Gotencio, from the Philippines, and Abdulla Abdulkarim who were first and second in Group A, and Dexter De Asis, from the Philippines, and Khalid Sameer who were the top two of Group B.
In the second round, Al Masri topped Group A after playing a total of 1,240 pins over five games for a 248.00 average. Abdulrahman Al Kheliwi followed with a 1,195 total and 239.00 average, and Falah was third on a 1,140 total for a 228.00 average.
Al Mass finished fourth with a 1,101 total and 220.20 average, while Ziyad Al Kheliwi (1,076, 215.20) and Barqi (1,055, 211.00) were ranked fifth and sixth.
In Group B, Waleed Daraj led with a 1,097 total and 219.40 average. Al Ansari was second-best with a 1,069 total for a 213.80 average, and Shaker Daraj third with a 1,022 total and 204.40 average.
Busheri followed with a 985 total and 197.00 average, and Al Zayani (979, 195.80) and Seralvo (963, 192.60) completed the advancing six.
The tournament is being held in memory of the Late Murtadha Qudrat Rasti, the Late Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, and the Late Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Khalifa.
