A COURT has ordered a man to pay his former wife a monthly allowance of BD200, while also granting custody of their daughter to the woman.
The Bahraini woman, aged 31, filed a case at the High Jaffari Sharia Court requesting a monthly allowance for her and her two-year-old daughter, according to court documents.
She said that she had had four children with the Bahraini businessman who refused to spend any money on them and had forced her to live at his family home.
Lawyer Shazlan Khamis, representing the woman, presented evidence to prove that the husband had neglected his ex-wife and children.
The woman said that her ex-husband did not spend any money on them for seven years and forced her to live with his parents when they married in 2015.
The court then ordered for the man to pay his ex-wife a monthly allowance for her and their daughter, in addition to nursery fees and Eid fees.
The court also granted custody of the daughter to the mother as the child was under seven years of age.
“After the age of seven, the custody goes to the father, whether the child is a boy or a girl,” the court ruled.
