People in Bahrain can now enjoy a premium transport experience with the launch of a new luxury Uber service.
Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry yesterday announced the launch of Uber Black, in partnership with Uber, under a regulatory framework designed to ensure efficiency, reliability, and high-quality service standards.
The Ministry’s Land Transport and Post Under-Secretary Fatima Al Dhaen said the service comes as part of continued efforts to develop Bahrain’s transport sector and provide diverse mobility options that meet the needs of various segments of society.
“The service will initially be introduced on a limited trial basis through partnerships with licensed companies in Bahrain and via the Uber platform, supporting the provision of new and diverse transport options for users across the kingdom,” said Ms Al Dhaen.

She added that the service will be available in carefully selected locations during the pilot phase, enabling the assessment of service performance and quality before its gradual expansion.
“Users will be able to view the areas covered by the service directly through the Uber application, enhancing transparency and providing a clear and user-friendly experience,” she added.
Ms Al Dhaen added that Uber Black, operating under the supervision and regulation of the ministry, will offer a premium transport experience through a fleet of high-end vehicles owned by licensed companies specialising in chauffeur-driven luxury car rental services.

Customers can enjoy premium transport service
Uber Black will offer a premium experience with professional drivers, including up to 15 minutes of wait time (five minutes at airports), according to the Uber website.
The Uber Black fleet includes high-end, late-model luxury sedans and SUVs from premium brands such as Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz.
The official further affirmed that all vehicles are subject to periodic technical inspections approved by the relevant authorities, ensuring the highest standards of comfort and safety for passengers.
She noted that the initiative aligns with the ministry’s strategy to further enhance the quality of services provided to the public while supporting the adoption of modern technologies and innovation across Bahrain’s transport sector.
“We are pleased to partner with the Transportation and Telecommunications Ministry to launch the Uber Black trial service in Bahrain,” said Uber Bahrain’s general manager Yousef Abu Saif.
“This initiative marks an important milestone in our joint efforts to provide a wider range of mobility options that meet the needs of different user groups while maintaining the highest standards of quality and reliability.
“We look forward to working closely with the ministry and licensed companies to evaluate the service and support the continued development of Bahrain’s transport sector.”
In January 2024, it was revealed that licences have been granted for only 1,415 taxis in Bahrain, 945 of which are Bahrainis.
Around 406 licences were under the private sector, and 64 were issued for on-demand taxis provided by eight companies.
