Bahrain beat hosts Malaysia 2-1 in a thrilling, Group E game of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers Final Round at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in Kuala Lumpur to advance to the top of the group table.
After a scoreless first half, Malaysia took the lead in the 54th minute through forward Mohamdou Sumareh but Bahrain managed to equalise less than three minutes later through midfielder Ali Haram.
When Bahrain scored for a second time in the 81st minute, through a calmly converted penalty by forward Abdulla Helal, the issue was put beyond the home team’s reach which was supported by a capacity crowd in the 87000-seat stadium.
