Eid Al Fitr this year is expected to coincide with the spring equinox in a rare astronomical alignment.
According to astronomical researcher Mohammed Al Asfoor, the moon of Shawwal (crescent) will be visible on Thursday.
He pointed out that in the evening, the sun will set at 5.48pm, and the crescent moon, signaling the end of Ramadan and start of Eid, will be visible at 6.18pm. It will remain visible for about 30 minutes after sunset, with an illumination of around 0.5 per cent.
He added that on the following day, the crescent will be seen after sunset for one hour and 33 minutes, with its illumination reaching 3.2pc, making it clearly visible if the weather conditions are favourable.
Mr Al Asfoor also explained that the spring equinox in the Northern Hemisphere will occur on Friday at 5.46pm local time, when night and day are approximately equal.
This means the spring equinox and Eid Al Fitr will fall on the same day, which is considered a rare astronomical phenomenon.
He added that the spring season in the Northern Hemisphere will last around 92 days, 17 hours and 38 minutes, while this coincides with the beginning of autumn in the Southern Hemisphere.
Mr Al Asfoor extended his warmest congratulations and blessings to Bahrain’s wise leadership and to the people ahead of Eid Al Fitr.
