Work on the strategic Al Fateh Highway development is on track, with 27 per cent of the massive infrastructure project already complete.
Works Minister Ibrahim Al Hawaj inspected the progress of work on the project, which is expected to be complete in 2024.
The total cost of all stages of the project will amount to $107.42m, which also includes the design and site supervision contract.
Work is currently underway to construct the pillars and bases for the one-way bridge from Al Fateh Highway towards Prince Saud Al Faisal Highway, in addition to road works in the central island of Al Fateh Highway in the part adjacent to the corniche.
Under the expansion plan, the highway will be turned into a four-lane artery in each direction over more than 3km.
An underpass will also be constructed, with three lanes in both directions with a length of 595m at Gulf Hotel Junction for traffic between north and south, in addition to the signal-controlled junction at ground level.
The project aims to improve the capacity of Al Fateh Highway by 61pc which increases it from 87,000 vehicles per day in its current condition, up to 140,000 vehicles per day.
