Police are investigating the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of a driver whose car plunged into the sea at Sitra.
Businessman Sreejith Gopalakrishnan, a 42-year-old Indian expatriate, drowned yesterday.
The ‘relevant steps are being taken by the authorities’, an Interior Ministry spokesman added.
Mr Gopalakrishnan lived with his family in Umm Al Hassam and they are being comforted by friends.
The police believe that Mr Gopalakrishnan was driving over the causeway when the car suddenly went out of control.
Despite valiant efforts, rescue personnel from the Civil Defence who reached the scene, were unable to save him.
His body was transported to Salmaniya Medical Complex morgue.
Mr Gopalakrishnan comes from Pathanamthitta, Kerala.
