A woman in West Virginia woke up after having been in a coma for two years, identifying her own brother as the person who attacked her.
Wanda Palmer, 51 accused her brother Daniel of being the person who attacked her in June 2020.
Police reports revealed that Wanda was 'attacked, hacked, and left for dead', and that they had found her in an upright position on her couch with severe injuries.
The injuries appeared to have been caused by a hatchet or ax, but the weapon was never recovered, the reports said.
Daniel Palmer III, 55, was arrested and charged with attempted murder and malicious wounding on Friday.
In June 2022, investigators learned that Wanda Palmer could speak some singular words.
Palmer was interviewed in her room by a deputy in July and told him she recalled being hurt in a trailer. According to the complaint, she said it was her brother who injured her.
"When asked why Daniel assaulted her, Wanda stated that he was mean," a deputy said in the complaint, which was signed by a magistrate Thursday.
Daniel Palmer III was arraigned and assessed with a bond of $500,000.
