Parliamentary and municipal election candidates are using private majlises ahead of the upcoming elections as platforms to introduce themselves and present their ideas and electoral programmes to the electorate, majlises’ owners told our sister paper Akhbar Al Khaleej.
During election periods, Majlises abound with seminars with a larger number of candidates or former MPs wishing to run for office, they said.
Majlises are attractive destinations for election candidates seeking to introduce themselves and announce their programmes, they said, describing them as important and powerful means of supporting any candidate, that strongly compete with both social and traditional media.
They stressed the importance for candidates and MPs to meet citizens and attend majlises throughout the year and not only during election times to get to know people’s needs, and highlight MPs’ efforts their work under the dome of the Parliament.
They underlined the need to evaluate the candidates based on their performance, ideas and programmes, whether they are independent or affiliated to a political association.
They pointed out that MPs appear only during the election period and disappear thereafter to appear once again during elections.
They advised the candidates to be careful when making promises, because people will not forget those promises.
