Amateur athletes, families and others will get the chance to participate in a protect-the-environment themed aquathlon at the City Beach-Water Garden City in mid-September.
The Family Aquathlon – the first of eight such planned events, with one scheduled to be held every month until May 2023 – is being organised by record-setting athlete and event organiser, Adnan Aljaber, through his sports event management company in partnership with the Bahrain Triathlon Association, on September 16.
An environmental awareness theme, titled ‘Reuse the Past, Recycle the Present, Save the Future’, will run through all eight events, Aljaber, who has been organising such family-friendly and other competitive events since 1987, told the GDN.
“This is all about encouraging people to come and participate in a healthy activity, while also raising awareness of the need to protect the environment,” he added.
An aquathlon is a multi-sport race, in which competitors face off in a swimming segment, followed immediately by a run over various distances, with athletes competing for the fastest overall course completion, including the time transitioning between the two disciplines.
There will be several categories for people to take part in, including the family aquathlon for 16 years and above as well as junior competitions for 6-8 years, 9-11 years and 12-15 years.
Bahraini citizens and residents interested in taking part in the one-day event, which will start at 7.30am on September 16, will be able to apply for registration online from August 29 till September 12 at www.adnanevents.org. The entry fee varies according to each age category for individual and team entries.
