A TEAM of Bahraini youth from Alwane Bahrain Society will be taking part in an environmental initiative designed to safeguard and care for sea turtles on Omani coastlines.
The members will be working from October 23 to October 30 at a camp in the Ras Al Hidd Reserve in Tyre to monitor the sea turtles that nest on Omani shores, according to Mohamed Al Ahmadi, the head of the Bahraini team.
The aim is to protect their eggs, transport the young turtles that stray to the shore and re-release them in the waters.
“The ‘Turtle Commanders’ initiative, which is concerned with the preservation and care of sea turtles during the period from August to mid-December 2022, is being carried out by Oman’s Environment Agency for the second consecutive year,” said Mr Al Ahmadi.
“We are proud that Alwane Bahrain is the first Gulf team invited to this programme from outside Oman.”
The Bahraini youth will also educate beachgoers about the conservation and reproduction of turtles and ensuring the cleanliness of the coasts.
